Marcus Ratliff: RECENT COLLAGE
Opening Reception on Saturday, May 10, 2014 5-7pm
BigTown Gallery is pleased to present this solo exhibition of collage by Marcus Ratliff. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ratliff moved to New York City to study painting at the Cooper Union, and after, at the Yale School of Art. During the early sixties, he was immersed in the rising tide of the New York art world. Successful development in his early working years as a graphic designer enabled him to build a graphic design studio, where for almost 40 years he worked with some of the finest art establishments, designing books and catalogs for clients such as, Leo Castelli, The Museum of Modern Art, P.S. 1, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Hudson River Museum, Museum of Primitive Art, Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, The Phillips Collection, Storm King Art Center, and DIA Center For the Arts.
Since 2008, Marcus Ratliff, now residing in Vermont, has enjoyed an intense and prolific return to making art without assignment. This exhibition focuses on the development of his turn to collage, where he has blended his masterful precision of design, with his intuitive discovery of a new vision.
We are delighted to present this humorous, intriguing, and elegant body of work.
